Those poor slugs...

They can't resist some beer! Getting loads of great emails about this. There is a lot of information about this - see if you can put some on your blog. Could it be a cheap way to keep these pesky slugs out of our garden?!

Well done on all of your work with the plans over the last few days. I'm very proud of you all. I will post some photos we took in class over the last few days in the Progress section. Feel free to copy the photos for use on your own blogs!

  1. Try making a beer trap. Dig a hole in the ground and place a large cup or bowl into the hole; use something that has steep sides so that the slugs can’t crawl back out when they’re finished. Fill the bowl about ¾ of the way full with beer, and let it sit overnight. In the morning, the bowl should be full of drowned slugs that can be dumped out for the birds to eat. Remember to replace the beer. Repeat this process until you’ve removed the majority of the slugs from the garden.
Helpful tips: The best containers to use are aluminium ones and if you think the beer won't attract enough slugs, add yeast to make the smell stronger.

  5. I think this is a great idea but it would be hard to put into practice. Storing beer in a school is bad enough but factoring it into the budget is downright suspicious...
